What is CBD?
CBD or cannabidiol is a compound found in cannabis and hemp. There are more than 80 chemicals, known as cannabinoids in the Cannabis Sativa plant. THC (delta 9 – Tetrahydrocannabinol) is found in micro amounts and in some products 0% in the Cannabidiol which means that your lovely pet doesn’t become high or worried but does enjoy the amazing pain relief that this product is proven to give. It is completely safe to use on pets, in fact they love it and it has had almost ‘miracle’ effects on some joint issues in animals getting them back on their feet when they are off their legs.
Uses of CBD in pets:
CBD oil is known to have a relaxing and pain-relieving effect on your pets and is very effective for:

- Treating arthritis: CBD can help pets suffering from arthritis to cope with the pain and it also eases the pain for them giving them that much deserved ‘peace’ to sleep and relax.
- Pain caused by inflammation: CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, so it helps to reduce inflammation thus relieving that constant gnawing pain.
- Seizure: CBD is effectively used on humans to treat seizures and there are a lot of positive testimonials stating that CBD reduces seizures in our pets too.
- Reduce nausea and improve appetite – get your pet eating their favourite foods again and with a ‘smile’ on their beautiful faces.
- Some symptoms related to cancer: CBD helps in fighting tumours and promotes positive cell growth. This is not, yet, proven to cure cancer, but it certainly helps to ease the effects and pain cancer can cause in your fur babies. Comfort is everything when cure is not possible.
How does CBD help pets to potentially cure their diseases and eliminate pain?
CBD works with the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) of the pets to regulate their system and bring a balanced effect within their body, thereby relieving them of any stress, anxiety and pain. All mammals have an ECS and therefore react well to the cannabinoids. Because of the great success using this system to ‘transport relief’ throughout the body researchers have been promoting CBD as a product that can achieve this balance and relief.
Is CBD safe for pets?
Since the amount of THC is negligible, or completely removed, in CBD products that are recommended for pets, it has been approved as safe to use on pets in the UK. It has been in use for this purpose in many other countries such as the US for quite some time effectively. CBD has been associated with helping pets reduce their pain and anxiety.
However, care has to be taken in providing the right dose of CBD. We request that pet owners do not give CBD to their furry friends without any clear instructions from your vet or the reputable reseller of which there are only few in the UK still. What is the CBD dosage for my pet?
The right dose of CBD will vary depending on the purity and concentration of the product and also the age and condition of your pet, weight, and type of disease and other factors, some of which may be unknown. As a rough gauge, start with the recommended basic dose based on body weight and then increase slowly over a couple of weeks. If in doubt, please ensure you consult a vet or professional with knowledge in this novel substance and who may be able to advice and recommend the medicine before you start the dosage. Overdose of any medicine or substance may harm your pet, CBD is no exception.

Side effects of CBD on pets?
Your pets may experience the following while taking CBD:
- Tiredness – or more restfulness
- Lower heart rate
- Increased thirst and dryness in the mouth
These minor side effects should subside once the dosage of CBD is stopped or reduced. There is only a few pets that are reported to have or experience the above side effects as these may even be classified as beneficial in a restless or anxious animal. At any point in time, if a pet owner feels that their pet is feeling very unwell or not responding well to the CBD, please do contact us. Is CBD for humans different from CBD for pets?
CBD is used for and in humans to treat a multitude of conditions such as seizures, Multiple Sclerosis, anxiety as it is also known for its relaxing effect. CBD for pets is usually free of THC which may be different from the CBD that is prescribed for humans. It is not recommended you use the CBD you use on your pets on yourself without prior consultation with a vet or a doctor. CBD for pets should not have any psychoactive effect as this may be undesirable. As stated earlier, the right dosage has to be administered to get the desired results in your pet and also for your pet’s safety and well-being.
